volumes on equallogic

i have found out that my storage repository has way too many volumes in storage pool. i have 36 volumes and i only have 12 vm's. i do not know what my colleagues have been up to but i suspect that they have been trying to create vm's over and over. i am able to match the 12 vm's to the storage volumes but my fear is deleting the wrong volume. what is the best way of cleaning up my storage area and retaining the needed space?
