SCVMM 2012 R2 SMP Provider Integration - 'Not Responding' Issues
Hi all,
We are running SCVMM 2012 R2 as a VM, with access to an EqualLogic 6210XV via virtual swtiches. In theory, everything seems to work OK. I got the HIT 4.7.1 kit installed, set up PS group access etc, imported the SMP Provider in SCVMM and can see the array and storage pools. I can configure new volumes and do pretty much everything I expected to be able to do.
What I am also getting, though, is an annoying issue where the provider and array seem to go into 'Not Responding' status if left for any length of time. At the same time, every 20 minutes there is a failure event logged in SCVMM jobs for 'Read Storage Provider Properties' as shown below. I think the volume it has an 'invalid handle' to is vss-control. Has anyone else encountered this, and how can I get it to go away?? The 'not responding' can be made to disappear for a short while by doing a powershell 'update-storageprovidercache'.
Cheers,
Rich.

Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server . For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275 for more details.

Hi Rich,
Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I'm having the same problem with the automated refresh job failing every 20 minutes, causing the storage providers to show as not responding in VMM.
thanks,
Russell

Hi Russell,
Sadly nothing seemed to help with this one. It does seem to be intermittent though, I've gone for weeks with no recurrence of the problem and a simple powershell update storage cache fixes it for a while when it does happen. Dell were unable to offer any suggestions either. I'm sure it'll all work perfectly in SCVMM 2016 ;)
Cheers,
Rich
