SAN HQ Network port cannot be reached

Hello All,

I installed SAN HQ to monitor my PS5000 and i have an issue with network port monitoring.

San HQ has been installed and connected to my san without any problems, SNMP is ok, the server where SAN HQ is installed can ping all san network ports

But still the folowing warning from SAN HQ :

Warning: Member PS5000 network port, eth0 cannot be reached. Unable to obtain network performances data for the member.

I have a second PS5000 installed in a different site and exactly the same problem (to monitor this other PS5000 i installed another SAN HQ server).

Help !!

Thanks in advance

Also, ensure you have the latest version of the firmware installed.  This may not be a faulty controller, but an issue with an older version of the firmware.

Check to see if the port is negotiating at 10/100 MB/s instead at 1Gbps.

If so, down the interface on the array, then move the cable to a different switch port the bring the port back up.  This will indicate if the problem is the switch or array.

If the problem follows the array (i.e., after moving the cable the port still negotiates at 10/100), you will need to down the eth interface (GUI or CLI), then fail over the control modules (restart the member), then once failed over bring the interface back up get 1GbE.

If failing over works, and SANHQ now sees the interface you should then fail back over to the original controller, to see if the problem returns (you don't need to down the interface at this point).  If the problem returns to the first controller, you may have a faulty controller and you should then open a support case to get it replaced.

I also would suggest doing this during low IO times.

Joe ,

Sorry for the previous incomplet post, so i checked all adapters, all have 1Gb speed, controller are ok also.

But one thing i noticed, i was able to get statitics on ethernet port when i activated monitoring on PS5000, during this time range the warning has desapear, now i stopped the monitoring the warning is back and no more ethernet port statistics.

Does it mean i must keep monitoring activated on PS5000 to be able to get statistics from San HQ ?

Thanks in advance

Just to be clear, when you say "performance monitor" you are using the Group Manager GUI Tools> Performance Monitor?

And you are saying that when performance monitor was running, SANHQ will show the statistics of the array eht0 interface, but if performance monitor is turned off, you don't see statistics on eth0 in SANHQ, but the other eth interfaces are showing stats in SANHQ?

Also, what version of the firmware are you running?

Hello Joe,

"when you say "performance monitor" you are using the Group Manager GUI Tools> Performance Monitor?"

=> not exactly, in the GUI at the member level, in the network tab, i do a right click on the eth0 port, in the contextual menu -> Statistics -> bytes transferred.

"And you are saying that when performance monitor was running, SANHQ will show the statistics of the array eht0 interface, but if performance monitor is turned off, you don't see statistics on eth0 in SANHQ, but the other eth interfaces are showing stats in SANHQ?"

=> when performance monitoring is running on any Eth port SAN HQ is able to get statistics on every eth ports (eth0 eth1 and eth2).

My firmware version is : V5.2.5 (R264411)

Thanks for your help.

Are you using a custom read-only community name (something other than ‘public’)?

If so, remove the entry, save, then add it back, save (do this on both the Group GUI and SANHQ settings.
