Remove Drive from disk pool, MD3200i
HI,
In order to improve performance, we buyed SSD drive for our MD3200 storage Array. Currently I have 3 MD1200i rattached on the MD3200i. I can add without issue SSD on MD1200i but I was told us that SSD cache performances will be increased if SSD drives were located on the MD3200i instead of the MD1200i.
But to use the MD3200i slots to put SSD Drives in, I need to remove actual 15k drive from the pool.
I didn't found any option to do that in the MDSM. I find following command in the CLI guide : removeDrives, but it doesn"t seems to work correctly for me :
set DiskPool [Disk_Pool_1]
removeDrives=[0,0,0]
Encountered "removeDrives" at line 2, column 1.
Was expecting one of:
"userLabel" ...
"owner" ...
"addPhysicalDisks" ...
"addCapacity" ...
"reservedDriveCount" ...
"warningThreshold" ...
"criticalThreshold" ...
"backgroundPriority" ...
"criticalPriority" ...
"degradedPriority" ...
SMcli failed.
Is there any way to remove disk from pool to replace it by a ssd to enable ssd cache?

Yep, I've the correct licence : Today I'm able to use cache disk using SSD located in one MD 1200.
But this do not answer my main question : all disks of my MD 3200i are used on one pool of disk. I can't delete this pool of disk because it's in use but I'd like to put my SSD in the MD 3200 instead of in the MD1200...
My question is definitely : how can I remove one physical disk from a pool of disk (I've lot of free space on my pool). If I'm able to do that, it will be really easy for me to use SSD for caching

Hello Gautier,
To enable SSD cache you need to make sure that you have the High Performance Tier purchased for your MD3200i to use that feature. Without that license key then putting in the SSD’s doesn’t improve performance just means that you have really fast drives. You can put the SSD’s in one of your 1200 but as you stated it is our best practice to do it on the MD3200i so that all the enclosures can use the SSD’s caching.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Gautier,
Since you are using disk pooling you can’t just remove a drive & replace it with a SSD. The only way to do it is to remove the disk pool then put the SSD in the MD3200i & then recreate the pool. If you were to remove a drive on the MD3200i & insert an SSD into the MD then you will corrupt your data in the pool.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
