Raid configurations options for PS4100.
I have a new PS4100 with 24 x 300GB disks currently configured with Raid 50.
External consultants have said that we may get performance issues with a single Raid setup with all 22 disk in one array.
They are suggesting that it would be better to split the disks into several smaller arrays:
Disk group A - 6 disks
Disk group B - 6 disks
Disk group C - 10 disks
2 disks are hot spares.
Questions:
1) Is it possible to configure a PS4100 in this way? I can't see that this is an option from the literature & wizards.
2) If it is possible to configure multiple disk groups will this bring any benefit in practice?

You cannot create more then one Raid Policy on a member (i.e., the physical array).
However, the RAID is distributed into multiple sets across the disks so in your case RAID 50 – the striping is on top of multiple RAID 5 (distributed-parity) sets.
