PS4000XV - Exchange snapshot failing
Hi all,
We have an Equallogic PS4000XV fully updated (firmware 6.0.5).
We take nightly snapshots of our Exchange 2010 volumes with Auto-snapshot Manager.
Before we updated Equallogic's firmware (v4.X) they completed successfully, no problems at all.
Now they finish but there's an error:
Agent is busy. Check the following conditions:
- The agent may be executing a lengthy operation. Try again when the operation completes.
- A wizard is open in ASM. Complete the wizard or simply cancel it.
- The EqlAsmAgent service may need to be restarted.
Operation was attempted 3 times.
We re-created them from scratch, but the error persists.
We also verified the three conditions mentioned on the error detail, but no luck.
I can't find anything useful on the web, does anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance, José

The error indicates that the snapshot is taking longer than 10 seconds to complete. This could be a busy agent with an overlap between two ASM operations were the first wasn’t completed before the next one tried to start (less than 10 seconds apart).
If this is not the case, ensure you have the latest version of ASM installed and try again (HITME).

We updated HIT to 4.5.0 after Equallogic's firmware, so that's not the cause I believe.
The snapshot is scheduled at 00:30 AM, without other snapshots near that time.
It takes just a few seconds to complete according to the event log, but then at 00:55 AM it sends the email notification including the error mentioned before.
I disabled soft recovery, doesn't change the result.
"Checksum verification" takes 21 minutes 10 seconds according to ASM.
All snapshots show "Broken" status, except the most recent.
Any clue?

I believe that this is a known “errant” message as long as the snapshots are being created properly. This has been reported, and should be corrected in the next version of ASM
.
However to be sure, if you can open a Support case and have the Debug logs handy.
To create the logs, look in the HIT/ME User Guide, for the EqlLog utility.
The command is located under the default installation folder, or the folder that you specified for HIT during installation. The default folder is: C:\Program Files\EqualLogic\bin.
To run the utility:
1. Open a command prompt and navigate C:\Program Files\EqualLogic\bin
2. Enter the command: eqllog
Use the -s --short option to only grab last 2 hours of HIT and event logs (provided that the message has been in the last 2 hours). This can greatly reduce the size of the data collected.

Thanks Joe, I'll try that.
