Need some advice as to what is the best approach for upgrading SAN in a cluster

Hi,

Currently, we have a 2 node failover cluster running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with MS SQL Server 2005 running on top.  Hardware wise, the 2 nodes are 2 identical Dell PE2950.  They are connected via a physically separated 1Gbps network segment to a Dell-EMC AX150SCi (iSCSI).  The SAN is setup with 2 LUNs - a RAID 5 that holds the disc quorum and a RAID 10 used exclusively for the SQL DB (1 Hot Spare configuration).

Since the EMC box has been long out of warranty and we are looking at replacing it with:

1. Direct Connected storage arrays like the MD3220 - is that possible and what would we need to do.  Ideally we would like to not have to replace the 2x 2950 Server if at all possible.  What about potential roadblock or drawback that we can expect?  [Would also like to get HDDs that are not vendor specific and has multiple external sourced].

2. Another iSCSI SAN - this route looks to me like the least of resistance assuming that we can just 'up' the existing cluster into this new SAN box.

3. Any other options?

Thanks.

Note: I've also post this same thing over on the Enterprise Forum (http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-solutions/f/3892/t/19533290.aspx) as well since I'm not 100% certain which one would be the more appropriate forum to post this under.  Mod: please feel free to merge or remove one of the other if needed.
