MD3820i iSCSI networking

Hello,

We would like to buy a MD3820i storage array, but I saw on the product page that they speak just about 10Gb iSCSI ports, we only have 1Gb switchs... I would like to know if iSCSI ports will still be compatible with our switchs or should we change them ?

Your help is much appreciated.

If you aren't planning to upgrade to 10Gbit switches, have you considered the MD3420i? It is the 1Gbit version with more (1Gbit) ports for more bandwidth if you need it (but not as much as an MD3820i with 10Gbit connectivity would yield).

I haven't worked with the MD3820i itself, but its predecessor (MD3620i) could connect just fine at 1Gbit, but you'd have to hard set the connection speed; it wouldn't auto-negotiate the port speed. You do this in the management software (can be installed on a Windows or Linux computer (this computer doesn't have to have iSCSI connectivity)).
