LTFS-capable firmware for PowerVault LTO5-140?

Has anyone had any success setting up LTFS on Dell's LTO-5? I've been trying my best, but the latest  BBNB firmware won't work with LTFS IBM LTFS Single Drive Edition 1.2.5. On the other hand, you can't flash PowerVault LTO5-140 with IBM's BBNF firmware due to the microcode discrepancy. Any tips?

From what I am seeing LTFS is validated on the Dell LTO drives. I am doing some more research to see if there is a work around that I can find for you. I will post an update once I am able to find something.

Thank you, Kenny K. I also tried the latest Quantum firmware (marked as LTFS capable) with the same result - rejected due to microcode difference.

From everything that I am seeing is that it will not be compatible with the Dell firmware. If I hear anything back I will let you know.

Thank you, Kenny K. Does it mean IBM doesn't support LTFS in its Dell-branded drives?

FYI: I've just updated the firmware to the latest C7R3, A05. Still no success. It looks Dell Powervault LTO5-140 won't support LTFS for a reason.

Hello,

With the same lto5 drive i had some problem before. The drive was changed 3 times , and they was
failure in backup job

I was disappointed not to find the bbnf firmware for the LTO5-140.
I don't know why but you may find this firmware in the Dell TL2000/4000

Since no more problem. .

Hi all,

Does anyone here had success on making LTFS tapes with this drive ?

I really need to get this working on my system.

Thanks in advance.

My TL2000 w/dual LTO5 has an option for LTFS and requests an "Feature Activation Key" for it.

Is there a place where one can get the key?

My firmware versions are:

Library = B.60

Drives = C7RD

Drive model is: ULT3580-HH5

Hello JburkeMX,

Currently that option is not licensed for a TL2000 orTL4000.  The reason is that currently that feature is not enabled in our tape drives firmware.  I am not sure of the expected date that it might be enabled so you may want to check back from time to time & if it is enabled we will reply to the post with that it is enabled and how to go about getting the key.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam

I don't suppose there is any update on when the LTFS will be available on the TL2000?

This actually seems to work with the IBM LTFS Single Drive Edition software (free from IBM) and the current firmware for this tape drive.

Thanks for that info i'll give that IBM software a try  IBM_LTFS_SDE_1.3.0.[revision]_x64.exe

I was highly disappointed to see LTFS not included when the TL2000 arrived last year with a LTO5 when it was a feature included in most other drives firmware apart from Dell. Very backwards way of supporting customers with old spec hardware that only supports Dell specific firmware that stops you from getting features that other manufactures already include as stock standard.

Dell will be purposely holding back any firmware that enable any new features to force companies to upgrade to new LTO6 drives or newer models that enable a feature that should have been included as standard long ago.
