How to install HIT for VMWare..AND I READ THE MANUAL!
Thank you in advance for sticking with this post b/c it's apt to be a tad long in hopes of accurately describing the issue and being clear. I've installed the EQL HIT/VMW appliance with no problem. It's the console configuration I need help with.
- I've read the manual which is not clearly written, IMHO.
- I've read the release notes.
- I've watched the install video here, but he didn't go into details.
- I've emailed DELL employees on the storage forum
- I've called tech support and talked to five people.
In credit of the last gentleman he did try to help, but he was a bit edgy with me. I'm sure it's probably my lack of patience that instigated his attitude, but I got nowhere. He did email me to see if I got it working, and I did email him back, but he is out of the office. I'm pretty sure he has not installed it.
PROBLEM: In the console of the appliance I'm not sure how to configure #2 and #3 and nowhere have I found clear instructions.
#2: Configure management network (eth0)
#3 Configure storage management network (eth1).
The first question for #2 in the console:
- Appliance's host name? Is this the name of the ESX host the appliance sits on, the name of the appliance that you installed or something different? In the video the answer he supplies to this question is neither the ESX host or the EQL HIT appliance? Does this really affect anything?
- IP address for the management network (eth0): On the PS4100 it has a separate management network- eth2. George though the IP they were asking for here is the management IP on the ESX host? Is it the ESX host or in the IP in the vSwitch? Can you see why this is not clear?
The first question for #3 in the console:
No Events found!

I guess there is a character limitation: This is the rest of the story:
The first question for #3 in the console:
IP address for the storage management network (eth1)? What IP are we referring to here?
Network mask for eth 1? I've got that if I can get the right answer for the first question.
Routed subnet for eth1? what is this referring to?
Routed subnet mask for eth1? what is this referring to?
Routed subnet gateway for eth1? what is this referring to?
I'm not a networking guy, but I even went to our Cisco CCNA and he didn't know what you were referring to.
Any assistance you can give me on clarifying these issues would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you. I finally got it up and running with the help of an EQL guy that I just lucked out to sit next to in a class.
