How to calculate the needed space to move a member to another pool ?
Dears,
We need to move a member -Member3- to a maintenance pool for upgrading the firmware.
My question is how can we calculate the needed space to move a member to another pool ?
I attached some photos from SANHQ for the Group/Pool/Member capacity.
P.S. Consider the group space not the pool space, because we have a fourth/Demo member in the maintenance pool and we will move it to the default pool for the upgrade process only.
Regards,
Turki

Your total free space for the default pool is currently 14.27 (with all three members) but you can't count the free space of the member you are moving, so you need to subtract that from you total, this only leaves you with 2.76TB of free space (M1 = 1.38TB M2 = 1.38TB = Total 2.76)
The total amount of free space you need to free up in order to move member 3 would be 9.8TB (21.31TB - 11.51TB = 9.8TB)
Regarding the disk timeout values, they should be setup regardless of doing a standard or non-disruptive firmware update. The disk timeouts allow the host to ride out not only firmware updates, but also controller failovers.

Hi Donald,
What can I provide to give you a complete picture ?
We are using V5.2.2 but we are going to upgrade it to V6 in two weeks. We are aware that we are running out of space and we are in the process of expanding our storage.
After the upgrade we will be able to free some space in the equallogic by using the unmap feature from V6.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi Don,
AwalStorage> show member -poolinfo
Name Status Version Disks Capacity FreeSpace Connections Pool
---------- ------- ---------- ----- ---------- ---------- ----------- -------
Member1 online V5.2.2 (R2 16 6.28TB 1.38TB 59 default
29536)
Member4 online V5.2.2 (R2 8 5.23TB 5.22TB 0 maintai
29536) nacep
ool
Member3 online V5.2.2 (R2 16 21.31TB 11.51TB 198 default
29536)
Member2 online V5.2.2 (R2 16 6.28TB 1.38TB 110 default
What I understand from here is that we need (21.31TB - 11.51TB) + 10% to move member 3 to the maintenance pool, please correct me if I am wrong.
Currently we have 10.41 TB free space in the default pool, but still it says there is no enough space to move member3 !
Regarding the Unmap feature, we are not doing any replication yet and also there is no VMware volumes.
About the disk-timeout value, If we are able to do a non-disruptive firmware upgrade then is there any need to change the disk-timeout value ?

Thanks & Regards,
