Help, Need FMR Tape for LTO 5-140 firmware recovery.
Can anyone having a LTO 5-140 drive help me create a FMR tape for firmware recovery? My drive's firmware corrupted during upgrade due to power loss. Now it can not be recognized by host card only has flashing green light but can insert and eject tape.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

Hello xsngli,
Is your LTO5 drive a single drive or is it part of a tape Library? Have your Tried holding in the eject button for 30 seconds to reset the drive? Also is there at any point that you get an error code to display on the drive?
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Single Drive.I tried reset and it didn't work. No error, code just green light flashing. I tried put clean tape in, it turns and rewinds then ejects the tape, looks like it's trying to find the firmware tape.

Hello xsngli,
Do you get any change to the lights with the SAS cable unplugged & then power on the tape drive? I know that for older LTO tape drives that you could create a FUP media. I am still looking to see if that is still available in ITDT (IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool) or not as it use to be part of the older version of the tool.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Light has no changes after plug in or unplug sas. If you have same tape drive, the drive can make FMR tape, no software needed.
Function Code 3 copies the drive's field microcode replacement (FMR) data to a scratch data cartridge. The resulting FMR tape can only be used to update the firmware on other LTO Ultrium 5 tape drives with the same host interface (SAS or Fibre Channel).
Attention: For this function, insert only a scratch (blank) data cartridge or a cartridge that may be overwritten. During the test, the drive overwrites the data on the cartridge.
Note: If you inserted an invalid tape cartridge (e.g., Ultrium 2 or WORM tape cartridge), error code J or 7 appears in the SCD. If you inserted a
write-protected cartridge, or the media has read-only compatibility (e.g.,
Ultrium 3 tape cartridge), error code P appears in the SCD. In either case, the tape drive unloads the cartridge and exits Maintenance Mode after the cartridge is removed.
Place the drive in Maintenance Mode. For instructions, see “Entering Maintenance Mode” on page B-2.
Press the Unload Button once per second until 3 appears in the SCD. (If you cycle past the desired code, press the Unload Button once per second until the code reappears.)
Press and hold the Unload Button for three or more seconds, then release it to select the function. The SCD changes to a flashing C.
Insert a scratch (blank) data cartridge that is not write protected (or the tape drive exits maintenance mode). The SCD changes to a flashing 3. The tape
drive copies the FMR data to the scratch data cartridge.
v If the tape drive creates the FMR tape successfully, it rewinds and unloads the new tape, exits Maintenance Mode, and the tape is ready to use .
v If the tape drive fails to create the FMR tape, it displays an error code. To determine the error, see “Error Codes and Messages” on page 5-2. The tape drive then unloads the FMR tape, and exits Maintenance Mode after the cartridge is removed.
