Equallogic iSCSI connections - 0 connections for a volume slice

Hi there,

I have a question/discussion pertaining to iSCSI connections and volume slices and what happens when there is no iSCSI connection to one or more volume slices.

Take the following scenario:

  • 1 Linux host (no HIT kit installed, I know, not best practice, also not my fault!)
  • 2 NIC's dedicated to the storage network
  • 1 dedicated storage switch
  • 2 Equallogic members with 1 storage pool and volumes being CLB'd across both members
  • 1 iSCSI login per volume slice
My question is, with only 1 iSCSI login per volume slice, what would happen if there was a network disruption and one of the volume slices became unreachable? Would the Equallogic member with the only volume slice connection somehow proxy the data for the other member with no connectivity? Would the volume be set offline? Would the volume remain online and corrupt the filesystem?
Please discuss, thanks!

Irregardless of the setup, if a volume slice becomes unavailable (member offline for instance), the whole volume is unreachable.

The data isn't 'neatly' distributed across the members, so if you cannot reach the whole volume, you cannot use any part of the volume.
