Dell PowerVault 132T Help
Hi, My friend gave me a Dell PowerVault 132T, because he moved to a another state for a job and its been really hard to get a hold of him, But my question is.When it starts up and says booting then it makes a lot of noises and after that it says on the screen of the dell Tape Recovered to slot 16 and from there I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how to Hook it to a computer or my internet network or something, so I’m asking how can I get to working so I can put staff on it and things like that. Sorry I’m new to this so I’m not sure how that works. I'm a computer programmer but this is new to me. How do I access it. Do I need some wires or is there away I can connect it to the net and get it that way, Sorry about this I just don't know how that works, Please help thanks.
Please someone help me, Or should I call Dell up for support.

Hello andrea825,
What i would recommend you do first is to pull down the door on the front of the PV132T & remove the 2 magazines and make sure that there is no media that is loose in the PV132T & also confirm that all media is in a slot & fully seated in the slot. If there are any loose media then make sure that it is clear of the picker/ robot so the robot can move freely from left to right. Once that has been checked and is clear then put the magazines back in and close the door and the unit should try to scan itself to confirm that it can come to a ready state. If it still doesn’t get to a ready state it should give an error code that will show like this: SAC 36. If you get any error code while it is booting up please post the error so I can see where it is getting to while it is in the boot process.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Andrea,
Ok so with the bad barcode message that means either those tapes don’t have barcodes on them, or that the barcodes are dirty & need to be cleaned. The Ready is a good thing as that means that the PV132T was able to home itself and has no errors. If you have connected the PV132T to your computer you should be able to do a scan & see the unit. Not sure what OS that you are using but if you were using windows you should be able to go to device manger and see a medium changer & should see the drives show up under tape drives.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello andrea,
I am not sure which tape drives that you have but if they are SCSI then you will need a 68pin SCSI cable. You can find them at most computer stores locally. Since you need to get a SCSI cable you will also need to get a SCSI terminator otherwise you will get other issues that will come up that states that it can’t get a connection to the computer & the PV132T won’t be running correctly otherwise.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi, Sorry for the long wait just getting ready for thanksgiving. I have a Questions to ask you.
I have noticed that the PV132T has an IP Address and mac address. Can I connect my crossover cable to the PV132T, Then to my wireless internet modem with out having a host computer to access it instead.
Our can I connect the crossover cable to the computer and to the PV132T and use it that way?
I do have this port on the PV132T on the bottom it looks like this ( l0l0l ) is that the port for 68pin SCSI.
I'm Just trying to find another way around then using the 68pin SCSI. Or and one more thing it has to 2 ( l0l0l ) ports. What one do I use to connect to. Thanks four your time.

Hello andrea825,
Sorry for the delayed response. The network connection on the PV132T is used to manage the PV132T & to upgrade the firmware on the unit. In order to use the tape drives that are in the PV132T you will need to connect the scsi cable to the drive & then to your computer.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello andrea,
The cable that you listed appers to be the correct one. I am not sure of what scsi card that you have in your computer but here is the steps that you are going to want to take to get the PV132T seen.
1. Power on the PV 132T & wait 5 minutes for the front panel to say ready.
2. Once the PV132T is at an idle / ready state then power on your computer.
3. While the computer is booting you can watch the boot and you should see it scan your scsi card and then it should find the PV132T on the scsi card. ( note: this all happens before the windows XP splash screen.)
4. Once XP comes up then you should have the add new hardware wizard should detect the PV132T & ask for the drivers. If the new hardware wizard doesn’t come up then go into device manger and see if there is anything under the devices with a yellow? If you have any devices with a yellow? the ones that you want to look for is a medium changer and tape device. If you see those then click on them & aim them at the folder for the drivers for the tape drive & robot. ( note: robot is called a medium changer for the drives and most software that access the PV132T.)
Here is a link to the drivers that you will need to install. http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/powervault-lto-132t?driverId=67T0Y&osCode=WNET&fileId=2731091873&languageCode=en&categoryId=TA
