DELL equallogic PS6110E no link on eth0
Hi all,
I am facing problem in setting up iscsi storage with VMware esxi 5.5.
there is iscsi port on storage. if I am connecting directly to esxi server. there is link coming but if I connect to separate HUB , there is no link.
I am using dell equallogin PS6110E iscsi storage.
as I said above if I am connecting Ethernet cable directly to esxi NIC port which is then binded to iscsi adapter. I am able to configure storage fine.
but I need to connect three esxi servers. as there are no more ports available on storage I cannot connect two more esx servers. so I am using HUB.
but once I connect storage eth0 which is iscsi only NIC to external HUB. there is no link coming on NIC. from esix nic it is ok the link is coming if I connect to HUB.
is there any restriction at ISCSI level?
thanks in advance

In order to properly configure the SAN network (i.e., servers and storage) you will have to use a properly configured switch that supports iSCSI. Ensure that you select one of the approved models listed in the HW compatibility guide.
Directly attaching the server to the array or using a HUB is not supported.
For a quick overview see the Configuration Guide:
http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/storage/w/wiki/2639.equallogic-configuration-guide
For additional detail on setting up the switch see the Configuration portal (has switch info, compatibility matrix, etc.:
http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/storage/w/wiki/2632.storage-infrastructure-and-solutions-team-publications.aspx
Also, the hardware setup manual, available on eqlsupport.dell.com (login required) has complete details.
Generally when setting up the switches you would configure no flow control, RSTP on for all server and array interfaces, Jumbo frames enabled, and an ISL between the switches (you should have a minim of two for redundancy). The portal has the information needed to setup specific models of switches

hi,
Thanks for reply.
we are having testing environment. and just need to connect three servers to storage using iSCSI.
although I visited links below. it says specific model switch required to work equallogic PS6110.
We may not have those switches.
let me know if there is any possibility to configure in testing environment .
thanks

yes
that's exactly what I noticed. If I connect directly from storage to one dell R720 server having 10G NIC which is binded to iSCSI inside ESX networking.
it worked fine. configured storage, presented and created datastore.
just to check when I switch the cable to 1GbE on the same server builtin port, it doesnot negotiate.
this is clear. let me review my setup.
thanks it was good info from you

Hi,
thanks for above. little bit delay though. i need to clear about SFP port that you mentioned. i am talking about SFP+port. is it for fibre channel?
does it mean this storage is both ISCSI and Fibre channel. and we can connect it to using fibre channel SAN fabric
