Dell 2950 - None RAID PCI-E SAS card

Hi All,

Wonder if someone could help me find a SAS card with a external Mini SAS port that isn't RAID that will work with my Dell 2950 (ebay or anywhere).

Unfortunately the Dell PowerEdge XM768 Dual Channel Raid card which I've just bought isn't compatible with Symantec Backup Exec 2012. :emotion-9:

I've always had a SAS (into the tape loader) to SAS mini (into the Dell) but I'm guessing it doesn't matter what it is as long as it has SAS on one end for the tape loader?

I'm getting totally desperate as I've been with backups for a week so any help would be amazing.

Hello Rob,

The SAS HBA that you want to use for the PE2950 is a SAS 5/e. If you do a goggle searc for Dell SAS 5/e you will get some places that are still selling the HBA. Also I was not sure what tape library that you were using as you didn’t state it in your post.

Thanks for replying, my tape library is a HP 1/8 G2 Autoloader.


Can I double check the SAS 5/3 a RAID card?  Also does this look correct:

Any luck getting this or any other card to work?  I am looking for a card that will connect the Dell VRTX /Poweredge M620 to the SAS type HP 1/8 StoreEver Tape AutoLoader.  Can't seem to find anyone at Dell or HP how to connect these 2 devices.

No I'm afraid not, in the end I used a LSI SAS 3000 card with a old Dell 2850 (none PCI Express card).

Sorry not a huge amount of help.
