Data Backup solution for Powervault MD3000i
i'll soon be implementing a cluster solution using 2 x windows 2008 R2 servers, 2 x powerconnect switches, and 1 x MD3000i hosting 2TB storage
I currently run Backup Exec to backup our data, Hyper-V, and other application servers... soon though the data from these servers will be consolidated into the cluster storage array
how best then to backup the cluster storage array using backup exec?
and also what can i do in terms of fault tolerance for the storage array?
thanks

Hi Ronnie,
You can start off by reading the chapter titled "Using Symantec Backup Exec with Server Clusters" in the Backup Exec Administrator's Guide. You can access the Administrator's Guide from the following link:
www.symantec.com/.../index
As far as fault tolerance, it sounds like a RAID solution might be in order.
Hope that helps some.

thanks, i found some information re: backup exec and clustering....and RAID5 seems the way to go on the storage array
we need to backup 2TB capacity from this array, and currently have a DELL RD1000 backup unit.. i can't however see if there are any 2TB cartridges available and so i'm not sure if i can use this option or if i need to consider another backup device, any ideas?

okay i'm considering one of these: www.dell.com/.../pd
and to use the RD1000 to backup the essential data from this each month for archiving

Having an MD3000i with dual controllers you already have a RAID storage solution. Ensure your iSCSI connections have sufficient redundancy via the 2 PC62xx, PC63xx, or PC54xx series switches and you will have a fully redundant solution providing fault tolerance. From that point the proposed Backup Exec solutions should work.
