backup options with 2x equallogic ps4000
hi there,
I've been asked to look at our backup options for our data centre which consists of 3x esxi servers with 2x equallogic ps4000. I was looking for advice/opinions on what is the best solution for is.
The 2 ways I have been looking at to backup the systems are using the equallogic tools or with veeam. Of our 2 PC4000 one is intended just for backups. From what I can see its not possible to take smart copies of a VM or datastore and store them on another Equallogic SAN - can someone confirm this is the case? Because of this I have been looking at veeam.
On our exchange server VM we have setup direct iSCSI connections to the SAN and re currently using the microsoft HIT kit to take smartcopies of the exchange databases. However this doesn't appear to work with Veeam (presumably because it doesn't support rdm) so I am looking at moving the exchange databases onto vmdk's. Does this sound like a good plan?
thanks for any assistance with this. I hope it all makes sense!

But to be able to do that you need 2 vcenter servers were you install HIT kit on. That way you can use the smart replicas.
Or if you can power off your VMs for replication you can just configure this on both SANs and you don't need any extra tools.
