Remove/delete datastore in VMware and Equallogic

hi all,

**************************************************************

9x ESXi5.5 hosts

EQL PS6000 Firmware V5.0.2 (sorry I know very old, etc)

***************************************************************

It has probably been asked before but I cannot find an answer.

just trying to find the right way to remove/delete datastore on VMware then on Equallogic

Basically I have got a volume on EQL presented to 9x ESXi 5.5 hosts. The single VM on the datastore has been deleted and there is nothing there apart from the FDM folder, with single protectedlist file (HA for VM when configured).

From host1, I have "unmount" the datastore (vSphere Client Configuration -- Storage -- Datastores) - From vmkernel log it shows that it has been unmounted.

Then, I have detached the LUN (vSphere Client Configuration -- Storage -- Devices)

~ # esxcli storage core device detached list
Device UID                            State
------------------------------------  -----
naa.XXXXa0c8f0bebdf1be3dd56faf9YYYYY  off

~ # esxcli storage core device detached remove -d naa.XXXXa0c8f0bebdf1be3dd56faf9YYYYY
~ # esxcli storage core device detached list
~ #

I have NOT rescan Host1. Datastore shows (inactive)(unmounted)

I will repeat the process for the other 8x hosts.

My question the is:

Do I then go and "Delete" the datastore from vSphere Client, then "Offline" the Volume in EQL GrpManager, re-scan hosts in vSphere, "Delete" volume in EQL?

Is this the right order?

Thanks in advance

"Do I then go and "Delete" the datastore from vSphere Client, then "Offline" the Volume in EQL GrpManager, re-scan hosts in vSphere, "Delete" volume in EQL?"

Yes, this is correct.

Newer GroupMGR version comes with a recycle-bin for volumes. Not sure about  your 5.x version but the GUI asks you when deleting.  The bin can be found in the lower left under Tools->Volume recovery bin.

Hi Joerg

Thanks for the quick reply.

This is the KB I followed....My question still stands in the way of "next steps" after "umounting" "detaching" from all ESXi hosts

Thanks again

This is one of the tasks for what is EQLs VSM (Virtual Storage Manager for VMware), formaly known as ASM is good for. Just a "single" click....

If you do it manual take a look to https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2004605
