reboot loop equallogic 4100
Hi, We have a dell EqualLogic ps4100 storage array with a firmware version of, I believe, 7.0.0 and Bootloader Version 3.6.4. It has been purchased a few years back and we no longer have an active support plan. It is now in a reboot loop saying "ERROR:15.4.3:NVRAM contains valid data. This is a WATCHDOG RECOVERY due to the watchdog on a NetBSD processor." I looked around and found out that firmware version 7.0.x have a bug that will result in this issue after 200+ days of uptime. The solution suggested is to update the firmware (which we cannot do because we no longer have a support plan). Is there another way to fix this without resetting the array?

Hello,
Good luck. That bug you referenced would only cause a failover to the other controller. The "WATCHDOG" is a monitoring process that if it encounters a problem it will cause the active controller to restart to force the failover. In the case of the passive CM not responding it will restart that one also. The WATCHDOG message is very generic.

Don

Hello,
There's no bug in 7.x that will cause the reboot loop that you are referencing. Depending on your region you can open a one time support case for a fee. This will require some triage to determine the cause. You also might want to see if you could get it covered under a Post Standard Support contract as well.
Regards,
Don

Thank you for your response. I got the information that the 7.0.x firmware versions have this issue from this post (https://www.dell.com/community/EqualLogic/Dell-EQL-firmware-v7-0-9-is-now-available/td-p/4566745)
We are located in part of the world where we can't directly provide a fee due to hard currency issues. We will look into the post standard support contract if applicable.

Thank you for your response. I replied to my own message by mistake instead of your response.

Thank you. You were right about the WATCHDOG message being generic. The problem was the C2F power module on the active controller has completely failed. Replacing it solved the problem.
