Question on Firmware for Dell Equalogic 4000 Model

I have a Dell Equalogic 4000 Model that is currently running firmware version 7.1.14. I am planning on upgrading it to 8.1.15 (32-bit). Is there any reason not to do this update on this model? I was unable to find anything on compatibility.

I don't think we have a contract with Dell on those. Could I atleast do version 8.1.15 on it?

Hello,

You can upgrade a PS4000 to 9.1.9 if you have an active support contract on that array. Otherwise you do not have a license to install or use that firmware.

Hello,

Not legally no.  It's same idea as you bought PC with Win7 and had a pirated version of Windows 8.  This is the operating system for the array.   The contract maintains the license and allows for upgrades and access to all the bundled applications for the array as well.

Is this something just for 4000 models or all models?

Hello,

This is for all Dell PS Series Equallogic SANs.  It has been this way since before Dell acquired Equallogic.

As long as you maintain the contract you get all new firmware, and bundled products as they become available. You can see the same message when you download even the old firmware.
