PS6210 won't connect to esxi 6.7 host

VMWare error "initiator is not allowed access to the given target (0202)"

Have 3 R740 esxi 6.7 U3 hosts. only one of them sees the Equallogic PS6210 and mounts volumes.

Other 2 see iscsi target names in static discovery and port bindings. No paths or devices.

Can putty into host and vmkping all equallogic IP addresses.

Don't have management network connected on Equallogic just Fiber ports.

Haven't found a way to get into the Equallogic remotely to look at it's settings for multipath or chap??

Do you have tick the checkbox on the EQL Volume "allow multiple host access?"

Otherwise whats in the monitoring log of the GroupManager when you hit the "Rescan" button in the ESXi?

Hello,

Also very important is configure the ESXi nodes to the Dell Equallogic best practices

https://downloads.dell.com/solutions/storage-solution-resources/BestPracticesWithPSseries-VMware%28TR1091%29.pdf

Unfortunately, if you haven't set them and discovered volumes you will need to remove the discovery address and static mappings and reboot. Set the best practices then rescan.

Personally I use CHAP for the volume ACLs.  Makes it very easy to add more nodes or volumes without having to modify the ACLs for existing volumes.

The best practice document also shows how to optimize MPIO.

 Regards,

Don

Hello,

Just to be clear CHAP isn't required but can be very convenient.   Adding a volume later you can just use the ACL from the first one.  So no changes are needed on ESXi side.  Just rescan the adapter, format it, then rescan the other nodes.

If you have a VM on the one connected VMware server, you can add a VM Virtual Network on the iSCSI side. Then you can use a VM to access the GUI and CLI of the EQL group until you get the out-of-band management working.

You can enable outgoing SSH on the ESXi node by allowing outgoing SSH on the ESXi node firewall settings.

Will try that. Currently I don't have remote access to the SAN.

I don't have management ports set up on Equallogics.

Will need to drive over to console in and set those to external IP's so I can remote into them.

Haven't found a way to get to them from the Esxi host through SAN network using CLI. I can ping all address from esxi host just fine so I know they are alive.

Will need to check and see if I set up Chap on them, Vmware doesn't show chap as being used to connect them..
