PS6100e firmware download out of warranty
I just updated to VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 15018017 on a ProLiant BL460c Gen8 running Emulex OneConnect OCe11100 10GbE, iSCSI UCNA adapters and I can't connect to the Equalogics PS6100e running firmware version 6.0.4. I'm getting an error in the equalogics log:
INFO 11/19/2019 4:51:48 PM PS6100E 7.2.15 | 7.2.23 iSCSI session to target '10.3.0.6:3260, iqn.2001-05.com.equallogic:0-1cb196-742536213-270004b2ab451bf7-production' from initiator '10.3.0.61:3850, iqn.1990-07.com.emulex:fc-15-b4-13-ec-a1 ' was closed. | Protocol error in packet received from initiator.
Does this mean I need to do a firmware update to be compatible with VMWare 6.7 or is it something else?
I also get this from the VMWare side when trying to mount the volume:
An error occurred during host configuration.
Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to complete Sysinfo operation. Please see the VMkernel log file for more details.: Sysinfo error: Storage initiator errorSee VMkernel log for details.
Looking through VMKernel Logs now.

Hello,
There are several issues. One is EQL FW v6.0.6-H1 or earlier is vulnerable to VMFS metadata corruption. ESXi v6.7 is only qualified with 9.1.x, or 10.0.x
In this case I suspect the issue is with the Emulex adapter and that older firmware. The Emulex and EQL don't agree on some iSCSI parameters.
So you can risk data loss, and use a 10GbE NIC with the ESXi Software iSCSI adapter to see if that connects OK.
There's no way to update the EQL firmware without a support contract for that array. The license to use and download firmware is maintained by the support contract.
