I worked around this by using the update manager. I still don't understand why this would not work from the CLI

Hello,
What version are you currently running after the upgrade?
9.0.0 is the EPA version of 9.x. You should be running a newer version.

Hi Don,
I say 9.0.0, I tried 9.0.9 too.
It worked from the Java update manager, but not by uploading via FTP and using the CLI to issue the UPDATE.
Strange, it's on 9.1.6 now.
Thanks for your help

I had a similar problem... it turned out that only an update from 8.1.15 to 9.0.9 works.
I tried 8.1.14, 9.0.0, 9.0.5... no way, always "compatibility issues". I wonder if there is an official DELL guideline for those updates. Trial and error??
I also found no difference between CLI or GUI update procedure. The only annoying problem was that the "Storage Update Manager" did not accept older versions. They were listed but it was not able to proceed. So I had to take the "Group Update", that worked. (And it is faster...)

Hello,
The firmware update PDF for the version you are going from shows what F/W updates versions are required at each level.
9.0.0 was the Early Access release not a GA release. Generally speaking you should always go to the latest revision of the next jump. Unless otherwise indicated in the firmware update guide.
The update manager is designed to take that array to the latest version it is coded for. It typically is about 30 days behind the most current release of firmware on the website.
Regards,
Don
