PS5000 and PS6210 - can they be in the same group?
Hi All
I have 2 PS6210 Equallogic units in a group, is it possible to add one of my old PS5000 units to the group or do I need to keep them in separate groups?
Many thanks
Eric

Yes you can ..... but:
- The 7.x FW is the last one for PS5000 and all members within a group have to run on the same version. So if you already upgraded your 6210 to 8.x you cant add the PS5000
- There is a best practice guide about mixing 1 and 10GbE
- As long as your PS5000 have a valid support contract youre allowed to download and deploy the latest FW version..... think about. Running members with and without Support in the same group is not allowed and will be cause some trouble.
I suggest to run the PS5000 on its own group.

Joerg

Thanks Don, I plan to use it for backups which will be copied offsite to another SAN prior to streaming to tape so not too critical and no complete VMs on it, just vmdk. I have noticed however that the unit forces 2 hot spares so I suppose the risk is lower still if I lose 2 drives in the array. Is there a way of reducing the hot spare count to increase the capacity available?
Thanks
Eric

I haven't configured the raid level yet, I reset the unit as it had been in use as a raid 10. The array shows 2 hot spares. So setting any of the raids doesn't take the capacity of the hot spare into account.
