PS4210 - group IP
Hello,
I have a two PS4210 array and one question about group IP. Now I describe my configuration.
- group IP : 192.168.171.170
ARRAY 1:
- first CM : 192.168.171.171
- second CM : 1921.68.171.172
ARRAY 2:
-first CM: 192.168.171.173
- second CM : 1921.68.171.174
vmware iscsi port:
ESX 1: 192.168.171.181
ESX 2: 192.168.171.182
And the question is: In vmware, in Dynamic Discovery i shoud add group IP or i must add IP each of CM ??

about this:
BTW, each CM does not have an IP address. Only the active CM does. On failover the new CM inherits the IP addresses.
I have on one array configuration like that:
Thats is ok ?? or I must delete IP on e.g eth0 because status is secondary ?

ActiveCM:
eth0:192.168.171.171
eth1:192.168.171.172
The Standby CM doesnt have an IP konfig.
In the dynamic. discovery you have to enter the WKA(Well known Address) of the (iscsi)Group and never the eht0/1 IPs.

Btw. each of your ESXi hosts needs at least 2 VMKs for ISCSI so you need 2 IPs for every Hosts. Otherwiese you doesnt have a redundancy. Using swISCSI with a Single iSCSI Target like EQL(and some others) is special because you have to bind your VMKs to the swISCSI first and each VMK only have to be one acitve NIC and no StandBy NICs.
Take a look to http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/storage/w/wiki/3615.rapid-equallogic-configuration-portal

About the CMs,
click in the status tab and on member status health select "Rear view". Use the mouse and mopve over the CMs and the ETHs without a mouse click. Maybe it explains more than written words.
In EQL land there is only a single IP configuration which is use by the active CM (Controler Module)

For Arrays like EQL VMware says you have to use a single vSwitch.

Don,
VMware say its a "must". For sure it also works on different vSwitches and it wasnt a "must" in the early days.
