PS4000 firmware upgrade failed

Hi,

I have a problem with an old Dell EqualLogic ps4000, that I've bought on ebay for test purpose, and unfortunately I've known only after the trade, that for download new firmware release I must have a valid account on the EqualLogic support site, that I haven't and I can't have, becouse the machine is in End of Life, and the support can't be renewed.
Can anybody help me with the firmware, every help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Are you looking for help on locating the firmware or had a problem upgrading firmware?

Hello,

Sorry, but we can't provide the firmware files for free.  They are a licensed product.

There are some extended warranties available for these arrays. Hardware only.

What version of firmware is that array running?

What OS's are you planning on connecting to it?

You do have a switch for it too correct?

 Regards,

Don

yes, I know that the files are licensed, I've asked here because this is the last thing I can do.
I've already called the support service, and I've explained the situation, that I've bought this product used on ebay only for study purpose, and that I should upgrade the firmware, but the operator have say to me that the product is in End of Life, and I can't extend the support for this product for no amount.
My appliance running with the V7.0.9, and following the Dell Storage Update Manager Tool I can running the V10.0.2 with the steps :
V7.0.9->V7.0.10->V7.1.14->V8.1.15->V9.0.9->V9.1.8->V10.0.2
I use a windows 7 machine to connect on the array and yes I've a switch to connect the array.

Hello,

I understand your issue completely.  However, no one here can give those files either.  It would be illegal.

Version 7.0.9 will function with Windows 7.  You're lacking some new features and fixes of course but as an iSCSI target it will work fine as long as the hardware remains functional.

Re: Support.  Depending on when you called they might not have been aware of the new extended program for HW only support.  It can cover up to twelve years after original ship date. Wouldn't solve your firmware issue though.  It includes end-of-life and end-of-sales PS hardware.

But since this is non-production I wouldn't suggest that you need it at this time.  I would however suggest RAID6 as the only RAID option to use.  It has the greatest redundancy.  No telling how many hours are on those drives.

 Regards,

Don
