PS-M4110 compatible drives

Hello

I am not very knowing about Dell hardware so wanted to clarify about drives compatibility

Will Equal Logic PS-M4110 support Seagate ST900MM0006  ?

Right now we also have ST900MM0006 but there are labeled as Dell's and with Revision LE08

I read about that EqualLogic want recognise drive with different firmware/manufacturer

Hello alex1711,

With an equallogic system if the HDD/SSD don’t say equallogic on them in most cases they will not work in a equallogic system.  You will need to purchase drives from Dell or a certified reseller to ensure that you are getting a equallogic drive.  If you insert the drive in your system and it powers down, then that drives doesn’t have the equallogic firmware loaded on it.  You can’t look up drives by the manufactures serial#, as in some cases we will install equallogic firmware on a drive that doesn’t have equallogic sticker, then send it out to a customer.

Hello Alex1711,

Small updates. The vendors  Dell works with for EQL, or Compellent drives brands the drive during the MFR process. it's not the firmware itself.  You cannot use a regular OEM drive of the same part number and firmware.  The branding will not be there. You also can't use a drive from a Compellent array and use it in an EQL array either.

Dell does not sell drives for out-of-warranty arrays or for end-of-life arrays either.  Only EQL customers with current support contracts and only for replacement of failed drives.

Regards,

Don
