Problems with Auto-Snapshot-Manager after installation of Monthly Rollup KB 4034681 on Windows Hyper-V Cluster 2012 R2
Hello,
we have a EqualLogic PS4110VX that is the storage for a Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster. Since the last August 2017 Quality Rollup KB 4034681 we noticed the EQL snap through ASM were failing.
We upgraded the Firmware of the EQL to 9.0.8 and also updated the HIT Kit to 5.0.0 and hoped this would solve the problem again. For a test we removed the kb 4034681 from one host and immediately the snaps started on this host to work again. Not patching the servers for a longer time is not really an option. Also the new Windows Update system only giving 1 "Security Quality Update" does not give us the option NOT to install one specific update.
In the iSCSI initiator Properties on the DELL EqualLogic MPIO tap it shows "All sessions to this target failed" (even though the ISCSI connections seem to work and also on the Targets tab they all show connected).
Does anyone else know about this problem or knows a workaround to it?

Hello Don, thanks so much for your answer.
I think unfortunately that what you are describing is another issue.
I had for a month the July update rollup installed already and everything was fine.
Also with the April, May and June Rollups I did not experience trouble.
The problem started was the August security quality rollup KB4034681.
The problem exists right after the restart and not only after some time.
This update changed the msiscsi.sys file to version 6.3.9600.18728.
What we experience is no locking problem or iscsi disconnects but only that the DELL EqualLogic Auto-Snapshot-Manager does not recognize the multipath ISCSI connections and volumes and therefore does not perform any snapshots.
For a test I removed KB4034681 on one of the hosts and right away everything on that host started functioning again fine.
We do not have ISCSI targets on the computer but have an EqualLogic PS4110VX as target.
Also everything seems to work fine with volumes sitting on our DELL Compellent SC4020.
It seems that in the August Update they fixed the issue you described, but created another issue with the DELL Auto-Snapshot-Manager. (we tried HIT kit 4.7.1, 4.9.0 and 5.0.0 - all three show the same behavior).
Maybe part of the problem is that we connect from the same hosts to an EqualLogic and Compellent and therefore have the DELL HIT Kit for the EQL and the DELL Replay Manager for the Compellent installed.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Daniel

Hello Don,
thanks again for your answer.
I have an open case with DELL already (952432729) just figured others for sure have the same problem and might know a workaround.
I still think it is an ASM problem (even though it is triggered by the MS update) as the ISCSI connections / CSVs are all fine, the servers are running and only in the ASM it does not show the connections and does not perform the snaps.
Will report back what Dell support finds.
Thanks,
Daniel
