New PS4210X in a group with 2 x 4100x devices

Hiya,

We currently have a group that has 2 x PS6000x and 2 x PS4100x devices in a single pool.

We're looking to retire the two PS6000's and buy in a single device to take over the role of these two boxes.

Would we be able to purchase a PS4210x? Would this exist happily in the same group as the 2 PS4100 that we would be keeping? Or would we need to go for a PS6 series?

If there is an issue, would we be able to put it in its own group? If so, what limitations might we face?

Many thanks for any input :)

Yes, you can buy a ps4210x*

No, you cant add this new member into your existing group with already 2 ps4xxx in place. You have to create a group02 to place the new guy in.

Keep, in mind that when all PS6xxx leave your existing group01 you will loose some "soft-features" like max. iSCSI Sessions, max. SyncReps and some other. So check the docs first and compare with your existing setup!

If you setup a 2nd. group the space isnt combinied as when all members are in a pool. You also cant migrate volume between groups as when having pools, but what you can to is a async. replication.

Dell have communicated that the EQL platform is freezed and that there will no new hardware comes. Customer should migrate to the SC and to make life easier there is a Dell Storage Manager which manage both system together. Also there is support for asnc. replicatation and volume migration.

The iscsi stack from EQL went into SC. Dell supports EQL up to 2023 or so but dont expect that support for new OS like Sphere 7 or Windows $Somehing comes in a acceptable period of time.

There is no End of Sale/End of Life yet!
