Migrating Volumes to second EqualLogic group

Hi.

I have a query regarding the volumes to be migrated to another storage group. We currently have 4 EqualLogic devices (2 x PS6000 , 2 x PS4100) in one Storage Group. We have to replace the PS 6000 and we cannot have another PS 4XXX in the same group. I am thinking of getting  a PS4200 and provision it in a second group and move half the volumes to other group and then retire the PS6000 from the first group. In general here is the plan

Create New Storage group with PS4200X
If required, upgrade Firmware on older SAN devices to compatibility level for replication (depends on the firmware version on new devices)
Provision PS4200X as Replication partner with the existing group.
Configure async Replication for volumes on group1 .
Take volumes offline, do delta sync and Promote Replicated volumes to be the Primary volumes and configure hosts.
Confirm that the replication is de-provisioned.
Remove one PS6000 device from group 1.
Remove second PS6000 device from group 1.

Can you please let me know if there are any issues with this plan or if i have missed something.

Regards

Sounds like a plan.

You havent told us what kind of Data you have on the volumes. For example.. if you have Virtual machines on, it might be easier to migrate them on Hypervisor level with svMotion.

Hi Joerg

Thanks for the reply, it is good to know that plan will work.

The majority of data is the Hyper-V VM's  and as you suggested, we can move them with Live Storage migration . however there are also volumes used to hold storage for SQL server clusters which as i understand, cannot be migrated at hyper-v level.  So ideally we can use both methods depending on the type and importance of the VM's.

Thanks again for your kind advise.
