initiator address cannot be added for newly created volume

When I create a new volume on PS6100 it does not give me an option to add the initiators. The total initiatrs on this volume says 0, where as all other created volumes has 2 initiatirs each

Hello,

You don't add access controls at that point.  You first create the volume.  Then decide what access controls to use. I.e by initiator name, IP address, or CHAP.   You can also you any combination of the three.

In the case of just using IQN names you need to create TWO access records. One for each server.

At the CLI:

GrpName>volume select VOLUMENAME access create initiator IQNNAME

Replacing the VOLUMENAME with the name of the volume want to add it to and complete IQN name from the server.

Repeat the process for the other server.  You can use the UP arrow to recall the previous command and then just change the IQN name for the second server.

Since there are two servers I am assuming they are clustered servers?   If they are not then having two servers connect to same volume will cause corruption.

If they are clustered you also have to make sure that "Multiple host access" is enabled.  Otherwise only one server will be able to connect to that volume.   The one that gets there first.

 GrpName>volume select VOLUMENAME multihost-access enable

This can also be done in the GUI of course.

 Regards,

Don
