Home LAB: Can I use Type 7 Controllers in a PS6010 Chassis?

I purchased a PS6010 Chassis for my home lab and after trying to get a reasonably priced Type 10 Controller and being unsuccessful I have purchased a Type 7 as it is my understanding that both of these chassis are interchangeable. Needless to say the Controller shows with a green and Red light active on the controller? I have also not been able to get a console session established and was wondering if this is due to the combination of the PS6010 and Type 7 controller.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don,

Thank you for the confirmation.

Like I said I purchased the type 7 controller and have the chassis powered and I have tried with the serial cables I have to connect but to no avail. I am  going to purchase the DELL DP/N 0YM61N cable to see if that resolves the connectivity/configuration issue I am facing. But my other concern is that the controller has both a Green and Red light lit on it and I am concerned that the controllers is failed.

Is there a way to factory reset the controller without access to the serial port?

In factory, will any of the 4 Ethernet ports grab a DHCP lease, so I can access it over the network?

Happy Holidays!

Don,

Thank you for the serial information.

Wouldn't puling the battery out of the controller reset the controller?

Regards,

Bill

I also picked up a second Type 7 controller and both behave the same way.

Don,

So I got the DB9 cable, and the controller pops right up!

Now my challenge is that I get a continual error:

POST Failure: Power Supply Voltage not OK in sufficient time

SystemCtlReg = 0x52

I have 2 power supplies plugged into a PDU and both are humming along, but I cannot get the unit to go past this message/error. is there an escape key combination I need to use to get into the console to configure?

I have also pulled out all of the drives to see if me lowering the draw on the unit would alleviate the error to no avail.

Thank you,

Bill

Don,

Happy New Year...

I've powered on one and the other independently, with same results.

How would I tell if the chassis is bad?

There really isn't a lot of electronics in the chassis, are you saying the mid-plane could be bad?

Thank you,

Bill

PS, By any chance do you work for Dell/NTT Data?
