FS7600 NAS Container - How to reclaim free space on container which have data deduplication active
hi Everyone,
we have a problem on a NAS container of our FS7600.
This NAS container is 600Go and is shared via SMB. data deduplication is active on it.
These days, this container exceeds the 600Go of data. Connect to the share, we have clean all the files or folders unnecessary but the container free space isn't increased on it.
I think there is no purge on the deduplication blocks to reclaim free space
Is there a method to reclaim free space, through a cli command (or the gui interface), to do this.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Regards

Hello,
I am checking on a reclaim/UNMAP process.
Just to be clear, the container can show 100% in-use and the OS show a much lower value. That's normal. If UNMAP/Reclaim isn't done on the fly then you see the differences in reported free space. The OS and filesystem know what blocks can be re-used safely.
So even if there is no reclaim option, you won't run out of space until you actually try to store more than the reported capacity.

Don

As @dwilliam62 suggested,
Snapshots are stored within the containers they relate to, and will use space from that container. If you make a snap of that container, and then delete a file, there will be no space saving because the file will be retained within the snapshot.
It is also worth pointing out that NDMP and Replication also make snapshots. NDMP snapshots will be retained until the NDMP backup is completed, and then that snapshot will be deleted and reclaimed. Replication, will create a snapshot, and retain it until the replication completes. Both of these processes will use space local to that container.

Hello,
One question, are snapshots enabled?

Hello,
To add to what Gary said. If you are using Replication then UNMAP/Reclaim is disabled. You won't be able to the freed space to show up. As I mentioned the blocks will be re-used automatically.
Do you still have a service contract for this system?
If you do opening a support case will get you more detailed answers.

Don
