Factory Resetting EqualLogic PS-4100
Dear Community,
I have a decommissioned SAN PS4100 which was disconnected from our existing cluster and at the time, it was physically powered off and disconnected and not removed properly from the cluster. I want to reutilize it. I powered it on and connected the MGMT cable to a different physical layer 2 switch, and changed my IP to match the network, and I am able to login and access the device but it is also showing me other devices in the cluster disconnected.
1- How can I factory reset the SAN?
2- After resetting, how can I assign the IP to MGMT and access it again.
Thank you

Don, I can't thank you enough. You are a superstar
I probably have old model with older firmware... so the options were a lot different but your single statement that it has to be done on the group level, and using the link you sent below did the job.
https://www.dell.com/community/EqualLogic/Dedicated-management-network-configuration/td-p/4470476
So the sequence is
1- During the initial setup via serial cable, I could only configure Eth0 (IP, Mask, DGateway) which was my SAN network.
2- Accessing that eth0 IP from my SAN network to get to management page, enabled eth1 (second storage network card) and eth2 (OOB management).
3- Assigning IP addresses and Mask for eth1, and eth2 but it will use the same DGateway as eth0 (you will not be able to set DGateway for Management network here).
4- Go to Group Configuration (lefthand menu option)-> Advanced (tab) -> Configuration Management Network (button)
Check Enable Dedicated Management Network (checkbox)
Management IP address=Group management IP address (textbox)
Default Gateway=Management network default Gateway (textbox)
PLEASE NOTE : Group Management IP MUST be from the same network as eth2 (OOB management) port for individual SANs

Hello,
First this is what is the status of the original EQL "Cluster"? I assume you mean "Group" when you said it was removed from the "cluster" If that member you want to re-use is still listed in the working group, you might want to reconnect it to that group and properly remove it. using the Delete Member command.
But if not, then yes, issuing the RESET command will remove all configuration information and delete the RAIDset and all data.
If you already have a copy of any of the "HIT" kits from Dell. Host Integration Toolkit software (HIT) has a "remote setup wizard" which will scan a local subnet for UNCONFIGURED EQL arrays. This will allow you to configure it very quickly without using the serial port.
There are some YouTube videos showing how to setup EQL arrays.
Re: Serial. You will need a NULL modem configuration, do not use Cisco switch cables, they are wired differently. Also no flowcontrol on the serial port. Neither software, nor hardware flowcontrol should be enabled

Don

There must be a delete/reset function on the command line and the security phrase "DeleteAllMyDataNow". After that all data goes away and when you restart the array again you can see the install wizard (assume youre connected with a serial cable and 9600,8,1,n settings) to the active CM.

Joerg

Thank you Origin3k. I was able to run the commands you have listed and wiped my SANs safely.

Thank you guys for your assistance. Now I have been hit by another annoying issue.
After wiping and going through the initial setup, it only gives me option to enable eth0 and eth1 where as my MGMT port is eth2 but it seems to be disabled. whatever ethernet port I select out of eth0/eth1 (which are my SAN traffic ports) , I can set IP address, subnet mask and DGateway (from SAN vLan), cluster (group) name and cluster (group) and this has to match IP address I have just entered above for eth0 which is SAN vLan). Using that SAN vLan IP I can login and then configure RAID and enable eth2 and when I try to set the IP address, it only allows me to set IP address and subnet mask for the MGMT port but Default Gateway is greyed out and I can't seem to set it, I need to be able to set DGateway so I can access these SANs from other network. I must change the cluster (group) IP address to fall in MGMT vLan.

Thank you DWilliam62. I didn't have the Dell kit for remote administration but managed to connect via serial cable as you mentioned

Hello,
Dedicated Management, aka "out-of-band' Management is in the GUI as group setting and member setting. You are setting a Group Management IP AND for every member in that group a Management physical IP address on that last ETH port on each member. You don't just set it as an IP on the member. It's a group setting as well.

Don

Hello,
The online help has instructions on enabling dedicated management.
http://psonlinehelp.equallogic.com/en/v6.0/Content/tlskr/task/Procedure_config_a_mgmt_net.htm
A quick step set is included in this forum topic
https://www.dell.com/community/EqualLogic/Dedicated-management-network-configuration/td-p/4470476
I also found a video on doing it via the CLI

Hello,
As I mentioned, out of band management must be configured at the Group Configuration level AND the member physical interface level. At the Group level you will set the default Gateway. You are creating an alias for management, just like there is one for the iSCSI discovery.

Don

DWilliam62, when I am setting up the first SAN in the group, it DOESN'T let me set the MGMT IP address as eth2 is disabled. it only lets me set IP addresses for eth0, eth1 unless there is a commandline to enable eth2. Eth0, eth1 are SAN storage traffic so if I set them, it will let me set during the initial setup, but if I keep the IP address of SAN Storage network 192.168.20.x, then the group management IP address MUST be from the same network 192.168.20.x. The MGMT network is 192.168.2.x and I can enable from GUI and set IP/Subnet mask but I can't set default gateway (but I definitely need it). I am attaching screenshots

Hello,
You are very welcome. I am glad you got it working. I was trying to say it has to be set at both group and member levels.

Don
