EqualLogic - volume Synched Replication question

  • I have a Group of two EqualLogic PS4210, one in building A (in Storage Pool A) and another in building B (in Storage Pool B).
  • The volumes are Synched Replicated between Storage Pool A and Storage Pool B.
  • Clients connect to volumes using the EqualLogic Group IP address.

Issue

  1. I Sync Alternative the volumes from Storage Pool A to Storage Pool B – all is fine with the volumes.
  2. The firmware of the switch in building A is upgraded, where the EqualLogic is connected to, then the switch is rebooted.
  3. When the switch is rebooted the devices connecting to the volumes now located in building B get disconnected!

Questions

  1. Should I be doing something else to the EqualLogic devices before performing maintenance on switches where the EqualLogic devices are connected to?
  2. Is there a document explaining the limitations of Synched Replication\ best practice?
  3. Am I doing something wrong? Group configuration \ limitation of Synched Replication

Thanks

Kev

Before the firmware was upgraded in building A.

              - Volumes SyncRep from Pool A were flipped to Pool B.

              - All servers accessing Volumes were in Building B and all servers in Building A were Paused (Failover Cluster)

Don’t know the path of fiber between the two buildings.

Distance about 500 meters (as the crow flies).
