EqualLogic: mixed 10Gb SAN and 1Gb SAN in one group
Hello All,
Current environment:
- 1Gb EQL4000 connects 1Gb switch
- 10Gb EQL 6000 connects 10Gb switch
- 1Gb switch connects 10Gb switch, in the same VLAN
May I mix 10Gb EQL and 1Gb EQL in one GROUP? if 10Gb and 1Gb in one Group, does it affect performance?
thanks.

Well... its not a Problem on EQL site because you place the PS4000 into its own pool so it doesnt interact with the PS6010, right?. There might be a problem if you put all your PS into the same pool.
The problem is when the server, which have 10G interfaces right?, try connect both pools. The server try to access your PS4000 pool with 10g and this is a 10x oversubscription. This could me a problem in your environment *.
But even if you use 2 different Groups which use different Subnets and extra pNICs within a ESXi server this doesnt work becaue ESXi Software iSCSI use VMKs, which are bind the the swiSCSI, and there is a requirement that all IPs have to be come from within a singe subnet. This example is very ESXi spezific!
1. So please tell us more about your environment
2. Dell have a 1 + 10GB Bestpractice Guide!
* We use a 2 Group (1 + 10) setup which living in the same subnet on a Larger ESXi Cluster. We dont care about the 10x time oversubscription. But we only run "Archive" on the old 1Gb PS members. Reason why we use a 2. Group is because ofout of warranty of some members. Also a reason for us is that we already have 10 members in the production group.
Regards,
Joerg

Thanks.
now, I put 10Gb and 1Gb PS in one group, but in different pool. 10Gb interface servers connect 10Gb PS, 1Gb interface servers connect servers
