Equallogic firmware update
I'm trying to do a check for firmware updates on an Equalogic PS4100. I can log into the main Java console, but if I go to the tools and try to run the update utility (Dell Storage Update Manager) it gets blocked by Java.
I have tried adding the device's IP address and *.dell.com to the exceptions lis tin Java, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks

Hi David,
Which version of java are you using? Can you try a different browser? Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Try clearing the java cache. You may also want to try different TLS versions in the advanced internet settings.
Press Windows key + R, type inetcpl.cpl, and press Enter.
Open Internet Properties and switch to Advanced tab.
Mark the following options:
Use TLS 1.0
Use TLS 1.1
Use TLS 1.2
Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

Java build 1.8.0_271-b09
I don't think browser is important as that's just used to downlaod the Java program file, which then runs standalone. However, I have tried both Firefox and Edge (latest versions in each case) and the same happens with either.
Thanks

Cleared the Java cache - no difference.
Those TLS options were already selected.
Thanks

Hello,
What version of JAVA are you using? Oracle made a default security change that might be causing this issue.

What version of EQL firmware are you using?
You might want to try download the DSUM utility from the Support website directly.

Java build 1.8.0_271-b09
Firmware 10.0.3
If I download the storage update manager from The Equallogic support site I get 'Unable to launch the application' when I try to run it.
Thanks

Hello,
Have you looked at the Java console logs for a more detailed error?
The Java applet is self-signed so default Java settings might not allow that.

Don

Have you tried running it as administrator? Is it the current build of Windows 10?

Not sure how that will help - Java is already set to the lower of the only two remaining security options, and the device's IP is added to the safe list. I can't see any option to permit running self-signed code.

Well, its not helping but why bother with the update utility when having only one EQL? Just do it in the same way as in the last 12 years? Upload FW and DriverFW trough FTP and execute the upgrade from cmd. The normal FW update can also done with the help of your working Group manager (only Drive FW needs to perform form cmd or suu).
I have done it regularly in the last decade so i was aware which i could upgrade. But if you take a look the FW upgrade matrix you can to the same within a minute.

Joerg

Hello,
In earlier reply I sent you a link to a forum posting here showing how to edit the security file for unsigned. Oracle changed the default to no longer allow anonymous certs.
Give that a try.
