Disk is "offline" in PS4100 array

One of array's disks failed and as I can see from even log, system was trying to reconstruct data to spare disk but wasn't able to complete and by some reason this spare disk failed too (at least it is stated like that in Event log).

First failed disk was showing appropriate LED (one OFF, one ORANGE) while the second failed drive showing both LED green ON. Status of the first disk was "failed" but the second drive was "offline".

I have already replaced the first disk and it is online and operational but the second one is still showing "offline" and both LEDs are green. Event log shows warning - "more spare drives are expected". Does that mean I have to replace this disk too?

Thanks.

Thanks. I know what you mean, yes, I have replaced first failed drive with the right one, purchased from Dell rep, otherwise array would not accept it. I'm asking about the second one which is original drive I'd never touch and not replaced yet. If system shows it "offline" and both LED are green - does it really mean it is a bad drive and I have to replace it too or there is a way just to put it "online" somehow?

Unfortunately my maintenance contract expired just a month before it happened 8-(

Yes, I'm going to upgrade firmware but I have to resolve issues before..

Hi All,

I have similar issue.

I just replaced 2 failed Drives on this array. Disk 14 and Disk 18. Disk 14 came up online as usual, However Disk 18 is "offline" and event log shows "Unreadable RAID Label on Disk".

I tried clearing the label through CLI, but it didn't work as the disk is already offline.

Both Disk 14 and Disk 18 have are exact same with correct firmware.

Is there a way to bring it online? It is a new disk.

Can some please help me on this?

Thank you!

Hello,

If the clear-label command did not resolve it, it sounds like the drive is defective.

To help others, since this is a different problem from the original topic, starting a new post is best.

 Regards,

Don
