Dell MD32 warning virtual disk not on preffered path
Hello Guys,
I have a dell MD3240 dual controller 12Gb/s SAS and dual 12Gb/s SAS port on Dell Poweredge.
Ubuntu 16 server native linux multipathing and lvm on top.
From the host side all looks good but the storage is allways in warning state complaning that virtual disk not on prefered path. I change to prefered path an after some time it will tresspass again.
Sometimes it will even tresspass from non prefered back to prefered.
Under host port identifiers i can see 3 WWN for one host with 2port SAS. I expect to see 2WWN one for each port. is this correct?
Thank you
BR

Hello marcouan,
How many connections from each controller do you have configured to your SAS cards? Also what is the model of dell server that your MD3420 is connected to as you didn’t list it in your original post. In addition to that if you change the owner of the virtual disk to the controller it is currently on does it trespass to the alt controller or no?
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Sam,
Thank you for your reply.
>How many connections from each controller do you have configured to your SAS cards?
From each server (dual port SAS ) i have one SAS port connected to controller1 of the MD and second port to controller 2 of the MD. But on the storage i can see 3 host port identifiers for each host. I expect to see only two port identifiers for each host.

PowerEdge R630 server. with SAS 12Gbps HBA External controller low profile.
>if you change the owner of the virtual disk to the controller it is currently on does it trespass to the alt controller or no?
I didn't try this. How can i change the default owner for a virtual disk?
I don't have much experience with Dell MD storage. From OS side multipathing is working with no issues.
Thank you
