Dell Equalogic PS6110 Controller failing to restart
Hi,
We have two SAN members in a group which I have recently upgraded the firmware. SAN01 went through fine but SAN02 hit an issue saying it wasn't compatible with the 64 bit version when I previously updated using 64 bit firmware.
The restart would take place and the status would show "in progress" but the progress bar would stick at 0%. The only way to recover from this would be to power down the unit and back on.
The status for the controllers showed no issues and both control modules had the updated firmware V7.1.2 (R402088).
I was curious to see if there was an issue with this unit still so I restarted the unit from the maintenance tab and exactly the same thing would happen. Trying this on SAN01 would take a few minutes.
Does it seem likely that one of the controller units is faulty? Is there a way to list any errors through a CLI command using telnet/SSH?
So long as we don't ever need to restart the controllers everything seems fine. All the datastores are present and I can find no errors going through EqualLogic Group Manager. We no longer have maintenance so I am no longer able to download and update the firmware.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately we cannot open a support case for this as we no longer have a maintenance contract.
When we initiate a restart on the GUI it eventually shows as offline and stays in this state. We can then no longer access this on the GUI. After this, we are unable to ping the unit. Connecting to the controller via a serial cable allows me to run CLI commands.
As you can see below, the unit looks as though its functioning fine. Initiating a "Restart" through CLI then brings the unit back online and we are able to access it again in the GUI.
If I run the following I get
CLI> alerts show
The storage array is still initializing. Limited commands will be available until the initialization is complete. Please try again later.
I will leave it till tomorrow to have another look and then initiate a restart through the GUI to see if it falls back into the same state. Any advice on what we could try would be appreciated.
