Dell Equallogic Raid 50 coruppted
At first I am sorry for my english, but have hope that You understand me
Hi. I have a problem with my dell equallogic
At first configuration it was 12 x 2TB drives in RAID 50
After some problem with drives we added another 3 seagate drives.
But now another drive ( 6 ) is corrupted and I do not have acces to my data. I have
I have a preaty good sector by sector copy of drive 6 ( just 40 bad sector left)
I Have also copy of all other drive.
Have also second equallogic PS6100.
I have been thinking that all mata data are on the drives so I put all copied drive to new equallogic and tried to run it, but it need to configure like with new drive.
Is there any comands that I could Use to replace this broken drive 6 to copied new drive and rebuild this raid 50 storage.
Any sugesstion are welcome.
Best regards
Rafal

Hello Rafal,
Which eql system do you have as you didn’t state that in your post? What is your current version of firmware on your system? Which drives were added to your system? Is your system still under warranty?

Hello Rafal,
Please run this command: GrpName>support exec "raidtool" and copy and paste the text in your reply.
I see you are running a very old PSx00 series array using 5.2.2 firmware which is many years out of date.
Your RAIDset is double faulted. The last drive to fail is the key drive that has to be recovered. If that is drive 6 then your copy of the drive should be installed in slot 6 to replace the failed drive 6. Remove the other failed drives The rebuild process should start on its own. Once that is done you can replace the other drives.
The only supported configurations for that model are 7 drives and 14 drives. The 2TB drive was never qualified for those PS series array models so we can't predict how standard OEM drives will perform. Especially with such old firmware.
Good luck!
Regards,
Don

Hello,
You still have three drives that aren't in the RAIDset. So it cannot bring the RAIDset back online.
Unavailable Drives
0,1,10
The other drive must be the spare or is a new black drive.
The labels on drives 0,1,10 don't match the RAIDset or are the labels are missing.

Don

Hello,
If they were failed and not rebuilt, you can't just swap in three new drives. There is too much missing data to recover.

Hello,
Do NOT re-run setup on an array. If you could you would destroy all the data.
You can run the command it shows. But you do have the possibility of data loss. If the lost blocks were in a critical database on the array recovery of your data will be unlikely. Possibly with a 3rd party recovery service.
If the data is not critical the array will likely complete the boot process. The error condition prevents the array from booting.
If it does you need to replace the missing drives with new drives so that rebuilds can begin. Try to keep IO on this array very low until the rebuilds complete. Only a backup of this data would be my suggestion. No other servers running. You will also need to run filesystem checks once the rebuilds finish on all your volumes.

Hello,
It's still worth trying the raidtool command there aren't many lost blocks. You said you have a clone of all the drives? Did you make images of them? So that if need be you could "restore" them to the same point you were at before you run the command?
