Dell EqualLogic PS 4100 X compress disk space
Hi,
I have a PS 4100X with a 24 disk of 600Gb RAID 50 with 2 spares
The total volume storage is 9720 Gb, but 429 Gb are still free
I am looking for a command to compress and optimize used disk space, but I can’t find it in the documentation.
Please, let me know what command I should use to do that.
Thanks,
Regards

Hello,
There is no option for data compression on EQL storage. PS6210 and PS6610 controllers can compress snapshot data but it's specific to those models.
You would have to compress data at the host level.
Or are you referring to recovering deleted/unused space? On non-replicated volumes you can run UNMAP from your host (assuming the OS and filesystem support it) and return to free space unused blocks on the array. That will get the in-use space shown on the array closer to what the OS reports. You will need to thin provision the volumes as well. In the volume settings on each volume under Advanced you can set a volume to thin provisioning. You can do that at any time w/o impact to ongoing IO.
