Delete single member without using reset command

Hello,

Using 2 PS6600 as a standalone member (each), we need to change the raid 10 to raid 6.

We did the change on the first PS6600 using the changing raid policy and it took 2 months to complete the operation.

For the second PS6600 we would like to destroy al data, mean do a delete of the raid 10 and recreate a single member directly with raid 6.

Is there a way to delete the single member without having to reconfigure the entire PS (name, network connections...) using the reset command?

Kind regards

Patrick

Hi Joerg,

Thank you for fast reply.

They are standalone PS. So each one are in a single pool and 1 member. They are both in separate network so they cannot see each other.

If I understand well, after a "deleteallmydatanow" I will have to reconfigure ip of all network cards and snmp and tags? It is the same as a "reset" command.

regards

Patrick

Question: Are your members place in different pools within ONE group to 2 independent groups?

No. With the "deleteallmydatanow" you perform a factory reset of that member and when its the one and only in the group also the group data is gone away.

During the setup the wizards search for an existing group and when not found the named one it greats a new one. Only for the the 2nd. you need to specify all group settings again.

Adding a member to an existing group is a 10min job. Maybe 15min if you have never done it before in the last 10 years ;)

Yes

- Password for user grpadmin

- Grouppassword

- IP for all Interfaces and MGMT, WKAs

- SNMP

- Notifications

- VSS

- ACLs, (Chap) User

-... everything.

I never seen a script which exports all those settings. The show member, show group will display some of that data. SANHQ have a configuration reports but IIRC its only name, ip addresses.

Most of my installation are multi-member groups and when we remove/reset a member my group always stay in place which makes it easy.

Don have postet the info about new FW releases and i see the downloads in my equalsupport center. If the array is under warranty you may consider an FW AND DRIVE upgrade as well.

Hi Don (apologies for Ron previously),

I could save the config in a file and yes there is a line for raid policy "raid-policy raid10". So I guess if I change the line to "raid-policy raid6" should be ok.

To reload the config I guess it is just the "exec config.cli" command?

I try the member delete command and got the same message as from the GUI:

"% Error - Member removal (vacate) failed because you cannot remove the only memb
er in a storage pool"

Do I need to do something else before or no other choice than do a reset?

Kind regards

Patrick
