Datastore Snapshot Recovery

I have a large VM spread across multiple datastores and RDMs that we are going to attempt and upgrade on and I would like to Snaphot it with the Equallogic as a backup. Where can I get more information/procedures regarding backup and recovery of datastores in VMware with Equallogic storage? Has anyone else done this and can share information regarding?
