Best Practices on Adding and removing members

I have 2 x PS6210 arrays i will be adding to the group and 2 x 6010 arrays i want to delete from the group. I was wondering if it is best practice to add the two new arrays, wait for the group to balance the data between them, then delete the two older arrays.

I see 3 ways...

1. Create a new pool and place both new members there
- You can move a single Volume from one pool(old) to a another(new)
- Only one move per time... and you cant "stack" the jobs

2. Add the new Members to the existing pool
- Move the old members out of the pool or just hit the delete member button. In both cases the data will be evacuated first
- Not the fastet ways... but its just a click and than wait

3. Member in new Pool
- Enable SyncRepl. After its finished perform a Switch to SyncAlternate
- Disable SyncRep and Delete the empty members and the pool

For all ... be sure that your Hosts can reach (ping/mtu) the new phys. ports of your PS6210. You dont need changes on your ACLs.

If you have only a few volumes i would prefer method 1. If you have a lot of them choose method 2.

Joerg
