Battery replacement on primary controller PS4210
Hello all,
Hoping someone can help. I have recently replaced the battery on the secondary controller on our PS4210. Now, the warning light is showing on the primary. I can log into the EqualLogic Group Manager but I just can't see how to fail the primary controller over the secondary controller?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Gary

Hello Gary,
In the GUI, go to the member you wish to restart. The last tab on the right is "Maintenance" There you will find a button for Restart or shutdown.
Alternatively, you can go to the Group CLI, but connecting to that member's physical port IP address. At the prompt you can type 'restart'

Hi Don,
Thanks very much for the quick reply, much appreciated.
Just checking, if I follow those instructions, how does the system know to shut down the primary controller just by clicking shutdown? Or is the only option to shut down the Primary?
For example, if I wanted to do maintenance on the secondary, how would I shut that down? -
I though they would be something under the actual controller section?

Hello,
You are very welcome.
Re: Shutdown. That will bring down the entire member, it does not just shutdown the primary. Restart is how you move from the active to secondary
Other then the two I mentioned, no. Not sure what maintenance you would do on secondary. Other then replacing it or swapping the battery. You just have to remove it for that.

Thanks Don,
As we have recently replaced the battery on the secondary, I want to ensure that it is working correctly before clicking the restart button. How I can be sure that it is?
Sorry, never undertaken any maintenance on our SAN and am therefore very nervous about this battery change.
Best wishes
Gary

Hello,
No need to apologize! If you look in the GUI, under Member then the "Controllers" tab, you will see both CMs. One primary one secondary. That only happens when both are online and working.
If it was not synced with the primary it would not failover, it would just restart itself.

Don

Oh! And there would also be an alert telling you that the secondary was missing and that failover cannot occur.
