adding storage to Eql Volume

so when I got to settings on my Volume I want to increase size to, and go to Modify Settings, and change space to add some storage, I get prompted to create a snapshot, and to make it read/write.

since I have not added storage to volume before, I have to ask, is it standard procedure to go ahead and create snapshot and make it read\write?

do you just delete snapshot when done and everything is working?

Hello,

You do not have to make it writable that's really only important when you mount it.

Creating a snapshot is a FANTASTIC idea an should always be done when growing or shrinking a volume. Especially the later.

If you make a mistake then it's a super quick fix to restore.  Some users didn't realize some OS's were limited to 2TB for example.

It's critical when you shrink a volume.  Some users were under the impression SANs work like NAS and resize partitions and filesystems automatically.   They don't have any filesystem awareness so data is just chopped of when you shrink a volume.

Once you have verified everything is OK,  then go ahead and delete the snapshot.

  Regards,

Don
