2 Equallogic PS6100 storage pool, need to remove and update 1 member

I have 2 PS6100 in 1 storage pool. One of them is having some issues, and desperately needs to have the firmware updated(one is on 6.02, the other 7.1.5).

So i want to remove the older one, and move all volumes to the other member of the storage pool. then do some maintenance(firmware), and bring it back online and back into the storage pool.

I see some reference to "delete member", but not sure if thats the best way to go.

First question, do you have a case open with Dell?  Moving members in/out will put additional stress on the drives.

Not yet

What are the "issues" you are having?

Secondary controller error

Are you running any VMware ESXi servers?   EQL FW prior to 6.0.6-H1 are vulnerable to experience damage to their VMFS Datastores.  Potentially resulting is lost data.   For best results, the VMs and ESXi servers should be down when you upgrade firmware in this specific scenario.

No, only using hyper-V with Hyper-v storage in failover clustering in this storage pool

You don't want to delete the member, you want to create a new pool, E.g. "Maint" and the select that 6.0.2 member and move it to the "Maint" pool.   This presumes that the remaining member has enough free space to hold the amount of data written to the 6.0.2.  If not, you can not remove that member from the pool unless you add in another EQL array to that pool.

Yes, the additional 6100 has plenty of space to hold all the data

Moving the member out, will force the data to move to the remaining member(s) in that same pool.

How far are you planning on upgrading?   I would suggest you go to at least the latest version of  8.1.x.

I want to at least match the version that the other 6100 is running, so at least 7.1.5
