Whats up with that time zone selection?!?!

I think I spent 10 minutes on the list of time zones trying to find EST. I was convinced that (living in North Carolina) that I would have the same time zone as New York.. BUT, New York was listed as "EDT" with "GMT-4:00".. my current awareness of time zones inclines me to believe that that should be "New York (GMT-0500)"..

That is rediculously confusing and whoever decided to use that list of time zones needs to be taken out back and beaten.

Why over complicate it so!?? (At least have a shortcut to the most common, Eastern, Mountain, Pacific. geesh.

And what's dayling? Is that the same as daylight? :0)

Sounds reasonable, but it wasn't immediately obvious to me. Knowing this would require a deep understaning of the relationship between GMT and timezones. Not sure about everyone else, but it was not obvious. I'm so used to ALWAYS seeing GMT-0500 everywhere, that I was uncertain if the "New York GMT-0400" was correct.
Maybe I'm just ignorant.

DAYLING - that's a corruption of DAYLIGHT - as you intuited. :)
